The overarching motivation of our work is to study materials with remarkable properties to enable new applications in a simple, inexpensive and scalable manner.
Our lab is a friendly environment consisting of an enthusiastic group of post-docs, graduate students, undergraduate research assistants, and visitors. In addition to research, our group participates in several science outreach activities. Our projects are often collaborative and we welcome new collaborations.
Research
We study interdisciplinary problems that involve thin-films, interfaces, soft materials, and micro- and nanofabrication. In general, we seek to elucidate the fundamental properties of materials that can be harnessed in a useful manner.
Areas of Interest
- Liquid metals
- Stretchable electronics
- Soft robots
- Photolithography and patterning
- Interfacial phenomena and wetting
- Energy harvesting
- Self-folding sheets
Positions
Our group typically adds 1-2 new Ph.D. students each year as well as several undergraduate researchers. Interested students can contact Prof. Dickey. Post-doc positions will be posted on the NC State Job Posting site.
